Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) usually in the form of calcite or aragonite. It may contain considerable amounts of magnesium carbonate (dolomite). Clay, iron carbonate, feldspar, pyrite, and quartz are also commonly present at a minimal level. Limestone is used as a building material, and to purify iron in blast furnaces. It is also used in the manufacture of glass, and of cement (one of the components of concrete).
